Hello!

I am Ms. Varuni. I began my career as a teacher back in 1989 when I also first arrived in the United States, from my country of birth, Sri Lanka.

I graduated as an AMI Montessori directress without truly knowing any real depth to Montessori education. My training to be a teacher gave me a deep knowledge of how to carefully and precisely present Montessori materials and I knew that I have to be a great observer of children and follow the child; but didn't quite understand the philosophy to its greater magnitude.

It was during my third year of teaching in San Diego CA. that my administrator complemented on my teaching which changed my perception of the philosophy to another level. After observing my classroom she whispered to me, "Varuni where ever Dr. Montessori is today; she smiles at you when she sees you working." It is because of such remarkable words of praise for my work, both by great administrators, AMI consultants, parents and coworkers that my work continues to flourish.

After 20 years of teaching experience I am proud to say, I am still passionate about the work that I do with children. That is only due to the true nature of a genuine Montessori classroom. During these years of growth I've been a head teacher along with being an administrator, children's house coordinator, co founder and director of three AMI schools.
